All children examined either at the Toddlers' Clinics or at the
Infant Welfare Centres exhibiting defects were referred to their own
Doctor or to Hospital, or in necessitous cases to the Minor Ailments
Clinic of the London County Council under arrangements made by the
Borough Council.
(h) Dental Clinic. The Clinic deals with such expectant and
nursing mothers, and children as are referred from the Welfare Centres.

The Dental Surgeon, Mr. W. H. Jennings, has furnished me with the following details of the work in 1938:—

3. Consulting Obstetricians.
The circumstances under which the services of Consulting Obstetricians
can be requisitioned may be summarised as follows:—
(a) In the case of Puerperal Fever or Pyrexia. Any Practitioner
can obtain the assistance of the Council's Consulting Obstetrician,
J. H. Peel, Esq., m.d., f.r.C.s.
(b) Complicated Midwifery Cases. The Borough Council makes
provision for any Medical Practitioner to obtain the help of
a Consultant where pregnancy or labour is abnormal, and
authorises any midwife, in case of grave emergency, to call in
a Consultant, without first seeking help from a local medical
practitioner. The following Consultants have been appointed
by the Borough Council:—

Mr. A. L. Gunn, f.r.c.s. (Edin.), 59 Harley Street, W.I.
Mr. H. G. Taylor, f.r.C.s., 86 Portland Place, W.I.
Mr. Arnold L. Walker, F.R.C.S., 121 Harley Street, W.I.
Mr. J. F. Gibbert, f.r.C.s., who has acted in this capacity for
several years, indicated his desire to discontinue this service.
