2. Welfare Centres.
(a) Infant Welfare. In addition to maintaining the Clinics held
at Gosterwood Street and Hderton Road and staffing the Princess Louise
Institute Clinic, the Council has provided a Central Clinic in Amersham
Road. The Services provided there include Ante- and Post-Natal
Clinics, Artificial Sunlight and Dental Treatment, Gymnasium and
Massage facilities and Day Nursery accommodation. In addition a
Toddlers' Clinic and Sewing and Cookery Classes, are held.
In order to afford an opportunity to senior girls in London County
Council Schools who have been awarded Scholarships in Mothercraft
and Infant Welfare, the Borough Council accept a number of such
scholars for training at the Central Clinic. In the course of receiving
such training these girls assist materially in the various departments,
although their chief work is in connection with the Day Nursery,
Sunlight and Toddlers' Clinics.
At all the Welfare Clinics the services of those ladies who assist in
a voluntary capacity are greatly appreciated.
For the Cookery Classes the South Metropolitan Gas Company
supplied the services of a Demonstrator and all necessary appliances,
and the value of various foodstuffs formed the subject-matter of talks
by the Health Visitors.
