Street Cleansing. As reported last year, the sweepers are provided
with trucks which carry two refuse containers and the acquisition of a
type of vehicle permitted of these being emptied upon the beat without
the necessity of conveying them to the Depot. As this system has
proved satisfactory, the Council decided to extend the service by
purchasing a second vehicle of the type mentioned.
Fouling of Footways by Dogs. The Council has made a byelaw
dealing with this nuisance.
Shops Act, 1934. In the course of their routine inspections the
Sanitary Inspectors pay attention to the ventilation and the temperature
of shops, and the provision of sanitary conveniences.
House Refuse. Storage, except for approximately 82 covered ashpits,
is effected in movable ash-bins. Removal, weekly as a rule, but
twice weekly in the case of certain large London County Council and
other buildings, and certain restaurants and bakers' shops, is entirely
done by motor transport, iron covered vehicles being used, together
with, towards the end of the year, the use of one internal loading
vehicle. Disposal is effected, under contract, by barge to East Tilburg
Common Lodging Houses. At a women's lodging house, the
proprietor desired to reduce the accommodation from 69 to 35, and his
licence was accordingly amended.
Rag Flock. No premises are known to exist which would fall
within the purview of the provisions in the Public Health Act.
Co-operation with the District Surveyor. The Public Health
Department continues to act in close co-operation with the District
Surveyor. During the year, 64 cases, apparently falling within the
jurisdiction of the District Surveyor were referred to him.
Water Certificates. The Borough Council was advised that
Certificates in respect of an efficient water supply in three new premises
could be properly granted.
Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Acts.
Three certificates were granted in connection with the above.
