There were two family outbreaks (included in the above figures)
involving four persons in each; one of these outbreaks was thought to be due to
the consumption of re-heated meat: The other outbreak was possibly due to
the use of bi-carbonate of soda in spring greens served to children for the first
time; four children in family (six years and under) were the only persons
affected.
It is unfortunate that several notifications were received too late
for investigations to be of value.
In one instance the patient was unco-operative.
Other foods suspected were whelks and custard; no portion of
suspected foods remained.
No pathogenic organisms were isolated from faecal specimens
taken from notified cases.
There were no removals to hospital and no deaths.
Milk in Schools
The arrangements for sampling milk at London County Council Schools
continued during the year. A total of 24 samples were submitted for examination,
all of which satisfied the prescribed tests.
