GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES OTHER THAN
THOSE PROVIDED BY THE BOROUGH COUNCIL
1 (a) Laboratory Facilities
Bacteriological examinations are carried out by the Public Health
Laboratory Service (directed by the Medical Research Council for the Ministry of Health)
at the laboratory, County Hall, S.E. 1.
This laboratory is available for both medical and sanitary bacteriology.
A stock of specimen outfits is maintained at the Public Health Department and these
are issued to medical practitioners upon request.
(b) Ambulance Facilities
The London County Council which undertook responsibility for the provision
of ambulance transport within the administrative County of London on the coming into
force of the National Health Service Act, 1946 , continued to provide this service
during 1961.
2. Hospitals

The London Chest Hospital designated a Teaching Hospital and under the
control of a Board of Governors, is also situated within the Borough and the Tuberculosis
Dispensary established at this Hospital, which serves Bethnal Green and part of the
Borough of Hackney, continued to function during the year.
The Little Folks Home at Bexhill is associated with the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital for Children, and has a complement of 40 beds.
