of the public who alleged the unsatisfactory condition of food

Bread. Meat Pie.
CaKes. Cheese.
Milk. Acetic Acid.
Canned Salmon. Fruit Salad.
The vast majority of the complaints were in respect of the
presence of foreign matter in the foodstuff concerned.
These complaints were fully investigated and all necessary
action taken. In the case of one of the bread complaints legal
proceedings were taken and the result is shown above.
In addition a complaint was received concerning the sale of
sherbet in very fragile glass phials. This potential source of
danger to children had previously been pointed out to the
manufacturer who had promised to discontinue the sale of this
line in 1956. He had, however, now re-issued the article and
had endeavoured to make them safe by wrapping the glass phial
with a sticky label.
Upon being informed that the phials were still a danger to
young children who in endeavouring to open the phials would often
break the glass; the manufacturer decided to cease the sale of
sherbet in these containers.
