FOOD POISONING.
During the year 10 cases of food poisoning were
notified. Three cases were alleged to be due to pie or
stew which had been eaten by the children at a school
dinner, but were exonerated as it was found that many
other children had partaken of the same food without
ill effect. The actual source of the infection remained
unidentified. The children soon recovered. In 2 cases
fried fish was found to be responsible, in 1 case sausage,
1 case chopped liver, 1 case corned beef, and 2 cases were
later found to be associated with a case of paratyphoid.
The following report which was prepared and submitted
to the Public Health Committee towards the end
of the year and which has been amplified by the addition
of statistics for 1948, gives a general idea of the incidence
of food poisoning in the Borough during recent
years.
