There was a slight increase in the incidence of Diphtheria,
and Scarlet Fever during the year there being 235 cases of
the former and 348 cases of the latter compared with 222
and 307 cases respectively in the previous year.
Duties in connection with Air Raid Precautions have
cost much additional work on the Department and it is a
pleasure to report that the members of the staff have very
willingly responded to the increased pressure arising therefrom.
I am pleased to have this opportunity of recording my
appreciation and thanks to the members of the Public
Health Committee for their unfailing courtesy and sympathetic
consideration of the many matters relating to the
public health, I desire at the same time to thank my
colleagues in other departments for their ungrudging cooperation
and also the members of the staff for their loyal
and efficient service.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
Vynne Borland.
