Hospitals (10), doctors (2), and parents (1), and
these children were visited by the Health Visitors and
the Sanitary Inspectors. 8 cases proved not to be
Whooping Cough leaving a net total of 402. 117
children were removed to an Isolation Hospital,
and 34 nursing visits were paid to two cases at home.
10 deaths from this disease were recorded during
the year.
Miscellaneous Investigations.
444 cases of Chickenpox were reported and these
were visited by the Sanitary Inspectors. A numberof
other children were also visited by the Inspectors
for illnesses reported by the Head Teachers, and
suggestive of one of the notifiable diseases.
Diabetes.
The Council has for some years paid for the
Insulin required in the treatment of a Betlinal Green
patient at the University College Hospital. This
was continued throughout the year until the death
of the patient in November.
BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS.
The Council's bacteriological work is carried out
by the Clinical Research Association. The following
specimens were examined during the year :—
Throat and Nasal Swabs—submitted for examination
1,221
Diphtheria bacilli present in 57
Sputum—specimens submitted for examination 71
Tubercle bacilli present in 11
Four throat swabs were examined by another
laboratory with a positive result in 2 cases, and 2
specimens of sputum, 1 positive and 1 negative.

with food are reported on elsewhere.
