During the year 1937, the number of patients attending
the clinic, which is held once a week, shewed an increase
on the previous year of 55 attendances. The number of
anaesthetic administrations (gas and local) was slightly less
but the number of teeth extracted increased in actual number—thus
giving a higher ratio of teeth extracted per each
administration. This suggests that patients allow their mouths
to become so septic that, on taking into account their general
condition, the sole treatment possible for the majority is
complete extraction. Further evidence of this fact is shown
in the decrease of conservative work, scaling and parodontal
treatment.
The amount of prosthetic work done during the year
nearly doubled that of the previous year necessitating for
the first time the clinic being open during August.
It is very regrettable that in so many cases complete
extraction of the teeth is the only treatment possible. This
is largely due to the fact that patients do not attend the clinic
at a time sufficiently early to allow of conservative treatment,
