The Borough Midwife and her deputy paid 624
visits in connection with her practice. As reported
elsewhere, she resigned during the year and in view
of the impending establishment of a home midwifery
service by the L.C.C., the remaining cases were
attended by Nurse Cumberlidge, the deputy midwife,
and the appointment was not filled.
OBSTETRICAL CONSULTANTS.
The Council has a panel of three Obstetric
Consultants, who may be called in by any general
practitioner in any midwifery case which presents
difficulty or abnormality. No consultation took
place during the year.
HOME HELPS.
At the end of the year, there were 12 Home Helps
on the panel, with 6 other women acting occasionally
as relief helps. During the year, Home Helps were
arranged for in 190 cases. In 61 cases the mother
paid a contribution for the services rendered. There
were extensions of the Home Helps' Services
beyond the usual 2 weeks in 41 cases.
MATERNITY OUTFITS.
Outfits were issued as follows :—Free, 145; Sold,
70. Total, 215.
