In March, a series of three talks to young women
were given in the lecture hall of the Public Library,
by speakers On behalf of the British Social Hygiene
Council. Councillors Mrs. Bridger, Mrs. Rockfelt
and Mrs. Tate took the chair at these meetings. A
further lecture to a mixed audience was given on
the 23rd March by Dr. R. Forgan, Councillor H. E.
Tate, J.P., being in the chair.
The Public Health Committee has continued the
arrangement with the Public Libraries Committee
to take advertisement space on the book marks
published by the latter. This space is used to give
publicity to various aspects of maternity and child
welfare and other public health services.
During the year, arrangements were made with
the Central Council for Health Education for the
supply of one of the Empire Marketing Board poster
frames (which was fixed at the side of the Town Hall)
and a monthly set of posters to display on it.
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO ENCOURAGE
WIDER USE OF HEALTH SERVICES.
The department also took part in the national
campaign organised by the Central Council for Health
Education to encourage the wider use of the local
health services, which commenced in October.
Posters, cards and folders which were supplied by
the Central Council were distributed through the
Borough Council's various contacts with the public
and through the churches, schools and other social
agencies in the Borough. In addition, a special
leaflet directory of local health services was prepared
for distribution through the post offices, etc.
