It is interesting to observe that the Bethnal Green figures
correspond fairly closely to the lowest income group in Sir John
Orr's report, i.e., those families with a gross income per head
below 10/-.
The results of the enquiry are therefore submitted as rough
approximations to the truth. They are an important indication
of the low standard of nutrition at present existing in a section
of the population of the Borough. What proportion of Bethnal
Green residents may be living at this level cannot be stated but
there is little doubt that it is a substantial number. Further investigation
of the facts on more scientific lines than were practicable
on this occasion is very much to be desired.
