APPENDIX II.
TUBERCULOSIS DISPENSARY
at the
LONDON CHEST HOSPITAL
REPORT FOR THE YEAR 1937
By H. Tylford Howell, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P.,
Clinical Tuberculosis Officer.
Before presenting a detailed statement of the work of the
Dispensary for the year, I have to report a change in the personnel
of the department.
Dr. F. Temple Clive, the assistant Tuberculosis Officer, tendered
his resignation in June on obtaining the appointment of
Medical Superintendent at the National Sanatorium, Benenden.
Dr. Clive was an able physician, popular with his patients by
reason of his unfailing courtesy, his ready sympathy, and his bright
and cheerful manner. His loss will be keenly felt.
Dr. A. F. W. Anglin, Assistant Medical Officer attheColindale
Hospital, was appointed to fill the vacant post and took up his
duties in September.
I reported last year that as a result of the Tuberculosis Officers
taking on the work of " refills " in Pneumothorax cases, it was
found necessary to add three sessions for this purpose. The
hours are as follows :—
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
from 10 to 12 o'clock, and Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9
o'clock.
In addition to the above, three sessions are reserved for
Artificial Pneumothorax refills
Thursday at 12 o'clock and at 2 o'clock, and Saturday at
12.30.
The accommodation of the department is still adequate in
every respect. The two consulting rooms, each with two dressing
rooms and a dark room for throat examinations attached, are
light and airy. In addition there are rooms for Artificial
Pneumothorax refills, waiting rooms, a laboratory, and offices
for the Tuberculosis Officers and clerk.
We continue to take every advantage of the unique facilities
offered us for specialist opinion in the various departments of the
Hospital. The opinion of the Physicians, Surgeons, Laryngologists,
Radiologists, Pathologist and Dentist is always readily
