The number of visits paid to Home Workers'
dwellings was 938. The number of premises found
to be in an insanitary condition Avas 142, or 30.3 per
cent, of the 468 premises inspected. Notices were
served in 198 cases, while 50 other premises were
under notice arising from other visits, and a verbal
intimation was given in 20 further cases.
Difficulty is still experienced in getting some
employers promptly and accurately to send in copies
of their list of outworkers, but no legal proceedings
were taken in the matter during the year.
It may be of interest to mention that some of the
homeworkers resident in Bethnal Green are employed
by firms whose place of business is as far away as
Glasgow, Newcastle, Hoddesdon, Croydon and
Epsom, and local firms have sent in lists containing
outworkers resident in Harrow, Dagenham, Hornchurch,
Rochford, Southend-on-Sea and Welling.
