BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS.
The Council's bacteriological work is carried out
by the Clinical Research Association. The following
specimens were examined during the year :—
Throat and Nasal Swabs—submitted for examination
1,052
Diphtheria bacilli present in 65
Sputum—specimens submitted for examination 110
Tubercle bacilli present in 11
Blood—specimen submitted 1
Paratyphoid B—agglutination 1
One throat swab was examined by another
laboratory with a positive result.
Other bacteriological examinations in connection
with food are reported on elsewhere.
SHELTER FOR CONTACTS.
(3, St. James Road).
These premises consisting of a nine-room house,
are occupied by a caretaker and are available, as
required by statute, for the accommodation of contacts
of infectious disease during the disinfection of
premises. The shelter was used during the year.
DISTRIBUTION OF DISINFECTANTS.
During the year 4,500 pints of partially diluted
disinfecting fluid were distributed to applicants at
the Town Hall.
DISINFECTION SERVICE.
During the year, 1,571 rooms and 29,692 articles
were disinfected for various reasons.
Two Morris motor vans are used for conveying
articles for routine disinfection, but an additional
motor-van of the Dennis type was purchased during
the year for special disinfestation purposes. The new
