With regard to notification, I think, it is necessary
to say that considerable difficulty is created by the
failure of medical officers of residential institutions
to forward notifications promptly and correctly in
accordance with the regulations. During 1935, no
fewer that 95 or 25 per cent, were received later
than the time specified in the regulations, one being
received 17 weeks in arrears and the gentleman
concerned being liable to a heavy penalty if the
regulations were strictly and literally enforced!
In 54 cases a notification was actually not received
at all, while on the other hand 31 notifications
were sent in unnecessarily. It may be that the
medical officers concerned are not provided with
sufficient clerical assistance. It should however,
be pointed out that these notifications are no mere
formality but are the basis on which action depends
with regard to disinfection, the after care of patients,
Tuberculosis Register.
