DEATHS.
The number of deaths during the year belonging
to the Borough, was 1,027. This figure gives an
annual crude death rate of 10.3 per 1,000 population
which when multiplied by the Registrar-General's
Comparability Factor is corrected to 11.6 and may
be compared with 11.4 for the County of London
and 11.7 for England and Wales as a whole.
As will be seen from the table on p. 23 the
death rate for 1935 was the lowest we have had for
some years. It must be remembered, however, that
the climatic conditions during the year were specially
favourable and it was also the odd year between the
biennial incidence of measles. It would be too
optimistic to expect that this rate can be maintained
in the succeeding year.
Infantile mortality and the mortality from cancer,
street accidents and from tuberculosis and other
infectious diseases are subjects of comment in other
parts of this report.
The causes of death among the population of
Bethnal Green as returned by the Registrar General
are given in the accompanying table.
