The number of visits paid to Home Workers'
dwellings was 922. The number of premises found
to be in an insanitary condition was 130, or 29.6 per
cent- of the 438 premises inspected. Notices were
served in 143 cases, while 26 other premises were
under notice arising from other visits, and a verbal
intimation was given in 15 further cases.
Difficulty is still experienced in getting some
employers promptly and accurately to send in copies
of their list of outworkers, but no legal proceedings
were taken in the matter during the year.
It may be of interest to mention that some of the
homeworkers resident in Bethnal Green are employed
by firms whose place of business in as far away as
Croydon, Epsom, Kingston-upon-Thames, and even
Manchester, and local firms have sent in lists containing
outworkers resident in Billericay, BexleyDartford,
Folkestone, Heme Hempstead, Northampton,
Romford and Southend-on-Sea.
