This clinic has made full use of the 3 mercury vapour
lamps installed at the Centre. Over 600 more treatments were
given this year than last and results have been satisfactory.
It is difficult to persuade mothers who are debilitated after
confinement to attend for treatment for themselves, but as our
numbers show mothers are very willing to make a continued
effort to attend for a course of treatment for their children.
The proportion of lapsed cases is less this year than last and on
analysis two-thirds of these cases have failed to complete the
course of treatment for good and sufficient reasons. It is good
to report that many mothers ask for further treatment as they
are so satisfied with the beneficial result of a previous course
Records are classified in groups and sub-groups to include
conditions subsidiary to the main one. Rickets in its early
stages continues to form our biggest group, the more severe
cases being simultaneously under the care of the Orthopaedic
Department at the Queen's Hospital. In the malnutrition
group those children who attended regularly showed definite
gain in weight and the colour and energy of the children
grouped under Anaemia showed marked improvement at the
end of the course. Nineteen children attending this clinic
also had Massage and all those showing any catarrhal symptoms
received Inhalation treatment at the same time.
