The Council's Health Visitors assist the London
Hospital Maternity Charity by reporting on the home
conditions and preparations of expectant mothers who
have booked with that hospital for midwifery services.
Liaison also exists with the L.C.C. School Medical
Service, our child welfare records being transferred to
the Divisional Medical Officer as the children either
enter school or attain the age of 5.
The number of outdoor visits has again increased
but this is mainly due to the work of the special Health
Visitor who was engaged during the measles epidemic.
It is still unsatisfactory that the staff available does
not permit of more than an annual visit to the 3 and
4 year olds, among whom more intensive work is so
necessary.
MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE
CENTRES.
At the Council's principal Centre in Cornwall
Road, there are 2 morning sessions and 3 afternoon
sessions for infant consultations, a morning session for
toddlers and 2 sessions in connection with the Maternity
Clinic each week. Other work carried on at the Centre
in connection with the Special Clinic for Delicate
Children, massage, milk grants, etc., will be found
reported on under these separate headings.
The auxiliary Centre at St. Matthew's Institute,
Hereford Street, is used for Infant Consultation
Sessions on Monday and Thursday afternoons, and an
Ante-Natal Clinic on Thursday mornings.
The following ratios may be of interest:—
| Ante-Natal Clinics | Children's Clinics | |
|---|---|---|
| Acreage per Centre | 380 | 380 |
| Population per Centre | 51,030 | 51,030 |
| Percentage of new expectant mothers, or babies under 1, attending Centres respectively, to total net births | 29•7 | 69•9 |
