LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL (GENERAL
POWERS) ACT, 1928, SECTION 28.
Care of Aged and Infirm Persons.
During the year, it was not found necessary to
apply for a magistrate's order for the removal to
hospital of any aged and infirm person found to be
living under insanitary conditions and not receiving
proper care and attention.
FOOD POISONING.
Food Poisoning became notifiable throughout
London, under Section 7 of the London County Council
(General Powers) Act, 1932, on the 12th July, 1932.
During 1933, 34 cases were notified. Of these cases,
16 were attributed to eating fish (including tinned
fish), 13 to meat (including tinned meat), and 5 to other
foods. Four members of one family had partaken of
tinned herrings, but it was not possible to obtain a
sample for analysis. In another family, 3 cases were
alleged to be due to eating beef sausages. Two cases
due to drinking lemonade were investigated, the
illness being attributed to contamination of the bottle
stoppers by paraffin. Chocolates which had been
attacked by grubs were the cause of two further cases.
