of their rooms. The sprayers were lent on 467 occasions
during the year, as compared with 208 in 1932.
Verminous Conditions.
Forty-five children (in 35 families) were reported
from the L.C.C. Cleansing Station as being infested
with vermin, 29 of the families being cases of head
lice only. In every case advice as to the treatment of
the clothing and bedding was given and disinfestation
by steam was offered. In 12 cases disinfection of some
kind was accepted. These reports have shown steady
improvement for many years. Considering the conditions
under which a large proportion of the children
live, it is remarkable that only 2 cases of fleas and 4
cases of body lice were reported last year, and speaks
well for the care taken by mothers to keep their
children clean despite adverse circumstances.
Rooms were disinfested of vermin in 517 cases.
Scabies or Itch.
Ninety-four children suffering from this disease
were visited after being excluded from the Elementary
Schools. In 82 instances disinfestation of the clothing
and bedding was accepted. In addition, 26 cases of
Scabies were reported by the London Hospital, one by
the Mildmay Mission Hospital, and one by a private
doctor; and in all but 4 of these cases the bedding
was disinfected. 61 rooms were also fumigated after
Scabies.

it has been little used by women. The baths are
available for women on Wednesdays, when a woman
attendant is engaged, the other days being allocated to
