OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM, &c.
Nine notifications of Ophthalmia Neonatorum were
received during the year. Five of the patients were
treated at home and four received hospital treatment,
the hospitals concerned being: St. Margaret's, Moorfields,
City Road Maternity and Bethnal Green General.
The Health Visitors paid 55 visits to cases. Two cases
were still under treatment at the end of the year. All
the other cases cleared up without any impairment of
vision being reported.
Twenty-seven reports were also received from
Medical Officers of the London County Council concerning
new born babies suffering from inflammation
of the eyes, 2 of these cases being subsequently
notified as Ophthalmia Neonatorum. These cases
were also visited by the Health Visitors. The district
nurses treated 46 cases of discharging eyes in young
infants, paying 632 visits for the purpose.

1933, the duties of the London County Council under
the above-mentioned Acts were transferred to the
Metropolitan Borough Councils. At the end of the
year, there were 11 foster mothers and 14 foster

MEDICAL INSPECTION OF SCHOOL
CHILDREN.
The County School Medical Officer has kindly
furnished me with the following statistics with regard
to the medical inspection of the school children in the
Borough. It will be seen that half the children
inspected are found to require medical treatment.
