The year has been a busy one as full advantage
has been taken of the facilities for Massage at the
Centre. Children have been referred from hospitals
and from doctors in practice, as well as by the Medical
Officers at the Infant Consultations. Many children
receive massage at the same time at which they attend
for sunlight treatment. The number of mothers
treated for failing breast milk is down this year. It
is hoped that this number may increase if a session
can be arranged at which massage and test feeding
run concurrently to avoid the extra attendance at the
Centre which is unwise in these cases.
Rickets in its various manifestations forms the
largest group of cases but the analysis shows that the
work has been of a representative character. It is
satisfactory to know that many cases of threatened
deformity have responded well to the combination of
massage with sunlight treatment, thus avoiding subsequent
attendance at an orthopaedic clinic.
