MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Systematic inquiry continues to be made into every
maternal death belonging to the Borough. Two cases
were investigated :—
(1) Septic Abortion
(2) Purulent Metritis (following recent delivery)
Peritonitis and Septicaemia
The maternal death rate was therefore 1.3 per 1,000
births.
There was a third case in which childbirth was
complicated by another condition (Fibrosis of the
Uterus), but this has not been counted as a case of
maternal mortality.
None of the mothers concerned attended the
Council's Maternity Clinic, but 2 of them are known
to have received ante-natal care.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Ninety-nine deaths of Bethnal Green infants under
one year of age are reported by the Registrar-General
as having taken place during the year. This is equal
to a rate of infantile mortality of 66.3 per 1,000 births.
The infant death rate for London was 59 and for
England and Wales as a whole 64.
Comparison with previous years is as follows :—
1923 68.7
