WORK OF TUBERCULOSIS HEALTH
VISITORS.
The two Tuberculosis Health Visitors paid 4,951
visits of enquiry and advice with regard to the welfare
of tuberculous patients in the Borough. In the course
of their work they endeavour to persuade patients
to adopt such hygienic manner of life as is practicable
by separate sleeping accommodation, safe collection and
disposal of sputum, etc. They also make economic
enquiries on behalf of the L.C.C. in connection with
sanatorium treatment, etc.
TUBERCULOSIS SUB.COMMITTEE.
The Sub.Committee of the Public Health Com—
mittee has functioned during the year as the local
Tuberculosis Care Committee, dealing with such matters
as grants of extra nourishment, assessments for sana—
torium treatment on behalf of the London County:
Council, special treatment, etc.
SUPPLY OF SPUTUM OUTFITS.
During the year 15 sputum flasks were distributed
to patients. Eighteen sputum tins, with 2,143 card—
board refills, were distributed to patients for use indoors.
OPEN.AIR SLEEPING SHELTER.
The Council.s Open.Air Sleeping Shelter was in
use during the latte? part of the year. Unfortunately,
owing to the limited space available in the yards and
gardens attached to the houses in the Borough, very
little extension of use can be made of this valuable
adjunct to treatment.
PROVISION OF BEDSTEADS AND BEDDING,
AND CLOTHING.
The bedsteads and bedding which are available for
loan to necessitous patients to enable them to sleep alone
were frequently used during the year.
