INFANTILE MORTALITY.
One hundred and sixty - one deaths of Bethnal
Green infants under one year of age are reported by
the Registrar-General as having taken place during the
year. This is equal to a rate of infantile mortality of
87.7 per 1,000 births. The infant death rate for London
was 65 and for England and Wales as a whole 66.

The causes of death among infants are shown in the
following table. The increased mortality was chiefly
due to Diarrhoea and Premature Birth.
