Care of Old People,
The steady expansion in services for the old people of the Borough
hascontinued during 1963, but I am still not entirely happy that we are
reaching all cases of old people who are in need of help. Aged persons
are still found living in unsatisfactory conditions, and not only lacking
but often actively refusing, care and attention from the outside world,
but I am happy to say that such cases are becoming fewer in number,
and this opinion is reinforced by the fact that no resort has been made
to compulsory removal under Section 47 of the National Assistance Act,
1948, during the past year.
