particulars of his National Insurance, and the existence of any " liable
relatives. This information is passed to the Borough Treasurer so that
he may take steps to recover the cost.
The total cost incurred in dealing with the 5 cases was £"
approximately, and this amount was recovered by the end of the
financial year at the 31st March, 1956.
Personal Cleansing Station.
During the year 1955, 447 treatments were given to person 5
suffering from, or contacts of, scabies. 115 of these treatments we re
given to adults, 249 to school children, and 83 to other children
under school age.
In addition to the above, 131 adults and 1,986 children found to
verminous, were cleansed. Of the 1,986 children cleansed, 1,808 attended 1
from local schools by arrangement with the London County Councilwho
have entered into a contract with the Battersea Borough CounC'
for the use of their Personal Cleansing Station. The cleansing
treatment of the school children is carried out under the supervision
of officers of the London County Council while the disi 11 '
testation of the clothing and (if necessary) of the homes is carried ° u
concurrently by the Borough Council's sanitary staff.
The homes of all cases of scabies that come to the knowledfi
of the Medical Officer of Health are visited by the Council's Sanita r -
Inspectors. .

The contract with the London County Council, referred to above
provides for the payment by them of 3s. 6d. for each treatment given
whether for vermin or for scabies, with a minimum payment of
£500 per annum.
