There were 23 confirmed cases in 1947, 5 in 1948, 28 in 1949, 7 in
1950, 2 in 1951 and 14 in 1952.
During the year there was only one case of diphtheria in the
Borough, occurring in a child who had never been immunised.

The following table shows the number (corrected) of cases notified during 1953 and, for the purpose of comparison, the average number of cases notified annually in the five years, 1948–1952:–
