Changes in Staff, 1934.
Medical Officer of Health.—Dr. G. Quin Lennane, M.C., for
28 years Medical Officer of Health of the Borough, was superannuated
as from 1st October, 1934.
Dr. George Macdonald, M.A., formerly Deputy Medical Officer
of Health and Tuberculosis Officer, was appointed Medical Officer
of Health from the same date. The post of Deputy Medical Officer
of Health and Tuberculosis Officer vacated by Dr. Macdonald
had not been filled at the end of the year.
Health Visitors.—Miss Mona Carr, whose appointment dated
from 1921, was superannuated in March on the ground of ill-health.
Her place was filled temporarily by the appointment of Miss J.
Sweeney.
Sanitary Inspectors.—Mr. H. E. Wheeler, Housing Inspector
since 1920, died on 15th March. Mr. R. J. McCarthy was appointed
to the vacant post in July. A temporary Inspector was employed
from May to August.
Clerical Staff.—Miss G. E. Newton, grade A clerk, who had
been absent since September, 1932, through continuous illness,
was superannuated in March. Mrs. R. Bower (née Dove), grade A
clerk, retired on 31st October, following her marriage.
Maternity Hospital.—The appointment of Resident Medical
Officer was held by the following:—Dr. K. W. Aylwin Gibson,
June, 1933, to 2nd February; Dr. J. A. T. Johnstone, 2nd February
to Kith April ; Dr. M. J. Lyon, 13th April to 4th July; Dr. D. J.
Healey, 4th July to 31st December. Miss J. Brown, sister at the
Hospital, resigned in August, and Miss D. Anthony commenced
duty in her place on 15th September. Miss M. L. Thompson was
appointed District Midwife as from 22nd January, in place of
Miss K. Morrison, whose resignation was recorded in the Annual
Report for 1933.
