A.M., aged 29. Married woman, was unable to meet cost of artificial
dentures she required, unwilling to accept sanatorium treatment because
of her three children, the youngest being 11 months old.
The Committee obtained sufficient help to cover cost of dentures,
and (the husband having provided for the care of two children) arranged
for the boarding-out of the baby. They also helped patient to provide
clothing which she needed.
Non-Dispensary Cases.
At the end of the year there were 184 patients on the notification
register who were not in attendance at the Dispensary, i.e., 18 per
cent. of the total notified cases.
It was formerly the custom for such cases to be visited by the
sanitary inspectors, male and female, but in October the duty of
visiting these patients was placed upon the Dispensary nursing
staff, with a view to the better co-ordination of the tuberculosis
work of the Borough, and with the hope of inducing them to attend
the Dispensary.
Prior to October, 575 visits had been paid to these patients,
and since that date they have been periodically visited by the
Dispensary nurses.
DEATHS FROM ZYMOTIC DISEASES.
The principal zymotic diseases are small-pox, measles, scarlet
fever, diphtheria (including membranous croup), whooping-cough,
enteric fever and diarrhœa.
The deaths from these causes in 1934 numbered 91, as compared
with 58 in 1933, an increase of 57 per cent. There was a
corresponding increase in the zymotic death-rate from 0-376 in
1933 to 0.603 in 1934.

The mean death-rate from each of the principal zymotic diseases for the ten years 1914-1923, and for the ten years 1924-1933, are compared with the corresponding rates for 1933 and 1934 in the following table :-
