average length of stay was 95 days. The average period of waiting
before admission was 10 days. Of these patients, 98 were discharged
during the year, leaving 59 under treatment at the end of
the year. Definite improvement as a result of institutional treatment
was shown in 47 cases. Thirty-five patients discharged themselves
while undergoing institutional treatment.

The results of treatment in 96 of the cases discharged from sanatorium during the year are shown in the following table :— Results of Institutional Treatment.

Tuberculosis Dental Clinic.
Dental facilities for tuberculous patients were first provided by
the Council in 1922. A weekly session is held at the Dental Centre,
Southlands, and patients requiring treatment or the provision of
dentures are referred to the Clinic by the Tuberculosis Medical
Officers. The number of sessions held during 1934 was 49, and 230
attendances were made, the average attendance per session being
4.69. The work carried out included :—Extractions, 41 ; scalings,
9 ; fillings, 24 ; dentures supplied—whole sets 6, partial sets 3 ;
repairs to dentures, 3; dressings, 26; advice, 69 (average per
session, 3.69) ; total, 181. The net cost to the Council during
the financial year 1934-35 for this service was £116 1s. 2d.
Extra Nourishment.
The amount expended by the Council during the financial
year ended 31st March, 1935, upon the provision of extra nourishment
for 95 necessitous patients upon the Dispensary books was
£205 9s. 4d.
In July the London County Council informed the Council
that it had been decided that the procedure laid down for the
supply of extra nourishment by the Public Assistance Committee
to persons in receipt of relief who are suffering from tuberculosis
should be followed in the case of applicants for relief who are or
have been in intimate contact with cases of tuberculosis.
