There were 23 new outworkers' premises added to the register
during 1934, and 43 were removed, there being thus a decrease of
20 in the number registered.
There were 473 inspections of outworkers' premises during the
year, of which 450 were by the female inspector. It was not found
necessary to serve any notices for sanitary defects.
Only one case of infectious disease (measles) occurred in these
premises during 1934, for which the usual precautionary measures
were taken.
Bakehouses.
There were 61 bakehouses on the register at the end of 1934.
Of these 51 use power, and are therefore technically factories.
Forty-two of the bakehouses are above ground, and 19 are under
ground. One underground bakehouse was removed from the
register, being no longer so used, and 1 was added, this being above
ground.
Inspections made during the year numbered 97, of which
84 were to factory bakehouses, and 16 intimation and 2 statutory
notices were served, mainly for failure to carry out the half-yearly
lime-whiting of the bakehouses within the statutory period.
