as compared with 1045 in 1932, 108.3 in 1931, 100.8 in 1930,
127.3 in 1929, and 98.1 in 1928. This is the lowest rate yet recorded
in Battersea, the previous lowest being in 1926, when it was 96.6
and in 1928 when it was 98.1 per 100,000 population.
During 1933 deaths from Tuberculosis registered as belonging
to the Borough of Battersea numbered 146, 125 (i.e. 85.6 per cent.)
being due to pulmonary tuberculosis, 9 (i.e. 6.2 per cent.) to
tubercular meningitis and 12 (i.e. 8.2 per cent.) to other forms of the
disease.
The allocation of the deaths in 1933 according to age and sex,
and in the Wards and Sub-Districts is shown on pp. 55 and 56.
In 1932 the number of deaths from tubercular diseases was 164
and it will be noted that there was a considerable decrease in 1933
in the mortality from Tuberculosis as compared with the previous
year.
Of the fatal cases 12 were not notified until one month before
death; in 15 cases the notifications were received after death, and
in 14 cases no notification was received.
Of the 14 cases in respect of which no primary notification
was received 12 (3 pulmonary, 9 non-pulmonary) were patients
who died in hospitals or infirmaries. One of the remaining 2 cases
was under treatment by a private medical practitioner; and 1
was the subject of post-mortem examination and enquiry by the
Coroner, without inquest.
Of the 15 cases notified after death 7 (5 pulmonary, 2 nonpulmonary)
were from Public Assistance Institutions; 6 cases
(4 pulmonary, 2 non-pulmonary) died in other hospitals, and the
remaining 2 cases (pulmonary) died at home.

The death-rates per 100,000 of the population during the 30 years ended 1930 in quinquennial averages and in the individual years 1931 to 1933 are given in the following table :—

It will be seen from the foregoing table that (except during the
war years) there has been a steady decline in the mortality rate
from Tuberculosis.
