[Report of the Medical Officer of Health for Battersea Borough]

The ante-natal work at this centre is transferred to the
Ante-Natal Clinic at the Borough Maternity Hospital, all cases
being referred to the central clinic there for examination and
report.

Dr. E. M. Saxton, Medical Officer in charge of the Infant Welfare Clinic, reports as follows:—

Fifty-one cases were referred to hospital.
There were 203 attendances in the Massage Department.
The health of the children has been good on the wholfe.
The infant deaths for the year total 8.
Prematurity, 4; pneumonia, 2; atelectasis, 1; delicate
baby, 1 (asphyxia through blanket lying accidentally
over the face).
The Mothers' Social and the Fathers' Club have met each
month with good attendances. A sewing class is held each week.
In addition to the Ante-Natal work carried out under the
Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme of the Council a considerable
amount of visiting and reporting of cases is done by the Council's
health visiting staff for the obstetric and gynaecological departments
of several of the larger Hospitals in connection with Battersea
patients attending these institutions.
