Deaths of Illegitimate Infants.
The death-rate amongst illegitimate children during 1933 was
69-3 per 1,000 births, as compared with 81-4 in 1932, 83-3 in 1931
161-3 in 1930, and 98-9 in 1929. The corresponding death-rate
of legitimate children in 1933 was 48-6, the ratio of the mortality
rate of illegitimate infants to that of legitimate being 1 • 43 to 1.
Notification of Births Act.
During 1933 the number of notifications of live births received
belonging to the Borough was 2,143. The corrected number of
births registered during the year in Battersea was 2,263. The
proportion of notified to registered births was, therefore, 94-7
per cent.
There were 296 live births of Battersea children occurring
outside the Borough notified from the districts in which these
births occurred, these cases being included in the total of 2,143
above.
