view to erecting new tenements on the site. The purchase of the
property was completed during the year, and in November plans
were approved for the erection of 12 working-class tenements, each

Stewarts Lane Site.
This site, to which reference has been made in previous annual
reports, consists mainly of old fashioned one-storey cottages, with
long gardens at the rear, and was considered by the Council to be
suitable for the erection of working class dwellings, especially with
a view to the re-housing obligation in connection with scheduled
clearance areas under consideration by this Council.
A compulsory purchase Order was made by the Council in
July, and after a local inquiry held in November by the Ministry of
Health the Order was confirmed. The negotiations for the acquisition of the property were in hand at the end of the year.
