Fish Shops.
Fish shops in which fish either cooked or uncooked is sold,
or in which the curing of fish intended for sale is carried on number
80 (eight more than at the end of 1932). All these premises are
kept under systematic inspection.
Three hundred and twenty inspections were made during
1933 and 21 notices (14 intimation and 7 statutory) were served
for various defects found on inspection.
Restaurant Kitchens.
The number of restaurant kitchens and eating houses on the
register at the end of 1933 was 126. During the year 411 inspections
were carried out and in 51 cases it was found necessary to serve
notices (including 11 statutory notices) to remedy various defects.
Street Stalls for Sale of Food.
There are 207 street stalls in the borough for the sale of foodstuffs
of varied character, namely: vegetables and fruit 141,
refreshments (coffee stalls) 10, fish and poultry 16, meat and
rabbits 5, sweets 8, and other foods 27.
These were systematically inspected during the year, but no
action was found necessary in regard to the food sold, which is
generally sound and wholesome. In one case, also referred to on
page 88, the proprietor of a street stall was cautioned in respect
of an offence against the Public Health (Meat) Regulations, 1924;
otherwise no offences against the statutory requirements with regard
to the food exposed on these stalls were reported during the year.
Inspections numbering 194 were made of the premises used by
street vendors for the storage of their stocks, and 15 intimation
and 10 statutory notices were served to remedy defects found.
