Food Premises.
Under the provisions of the London County Council (General
Powers) Act, 1932, the London County Council were empowered
to make By-laws for promoting sanitary and cleanly conditions
in the manufacture, storage, transport or exposure for sale of any
article intended to be sold for food. The By-laws, however, had
not been drafted at the end of the year under report.
To extend the usefulness of the proposed By-laws, the Borough
Council on the suggestion of the Metropolitan Boroughs Standing
Joint Committee, expressed their willingness to collaborate with the
Factory Inspectors in administering the By-laws.
Wrapping of Foodstuffs.
The Council considered a letter from another Borough Council,
suggesting the promotion of legislation to provide for the compulsory
wrapping of bread, and the prohibition of the use of newspapers
or waste paper for the wrapping of foodstuffs, such as fish, meat
and sweets. The Council supported the suggestion so far as it
related to the use of newspapers, &c., for the wrapping of food.
