The allocation of the deaths in 1931 according to age and sex,
and in the Wards and Sub-Districts is shown on pp. 54 and 45.
During 1931 deaths from Tuberculosis registered as belonging
to the Borough of Battersea numbered 173, 143 (i.e. 82.7 per cent.)
being due to pulmonary tuberculosis, 13 (i.e. 7.5 per cent.) to
tubercular meningitis and 17 (i.e. 9.8 per cent.) to other forms of the
disease.
In 1930 the number of deaths from tubercular diseases was 162
and it will be noted that there was an increase in 1931 in the mortality
from Tuberculosis as compared with the previous year.
Of the 173 deaths registered from Tuberculosis during the
year 14 cases were not notified until one month before death;
in 14 cases the notifications were received after death, and in 17
cases no notification was received.
Of the 17 cases in respect of which no primary notification
was received 13 (5 pulmonary, 8 non-pulmonary) were patients
who died in hospitals or infirmaries. The remaining 4 cases
(3 pulmonary, 1 non-pulmonary) were under treatment by private
medical practitioners, notification in one instance having been made
to another local authority.
Of the 14 cases notified after death 9 (2 pulmonary, 7 nonpulmonary)
were from Public Assistance Institutions; 2 (pulmonary)
died in other hospitals, and the remaining 3 cases (pulmonary)
were under private medical practitioners.

The death-rates per 100,000 of the population during the 30 years ended 1930 in quinquennial averages and in individual years from 1926 to 1931 are given in the following table:-
