Vital Statistics.
The revised report of the Registrar-General upon the Census
taken on the 26/27th April, 1931, shows the population of Battersea
to be 159,552, as compared with 167,739 at the Census of 1921, a
decrease of 8,187.

The estimated mid-year population based upon the Registrar-General's figures, for the registration Sub-districts and for the nine Wards into which the Borough is divided, is set out in the following Table

BIRTHS.
The number of births registered in the Borough during 1931
was 2,788 (1,415 males, 1,373 females), an excess of 42 males.
Of this number, 669 were transferred out, the permanent residence
of the parents being outside the Borough. and 358, registered outside
the Borough, were transferred here, giving on balance a total of
2,477 births relating to Battersea residents, and a corrected birth-rate
of 15.5 per 1,000 of the population. This is a decrease on that
of 1930, and the birth-rate is the lowest so far recorded in
Battersea.
