VITAL STATISTICS.
Population.
The population of the Borough of Battersea estimated to the
middle of 1929 is 161,800. This figure shows a decrease as compared
with 1928 and is the result of a revision by the RegistrarGeneral
based, it is understood, upon information as to migration.
It is probable that the figures given by the Registrar-General
will be found an under-estimate. Information obtained from local
sources would appear to indicate that the population of the Borough
is approximately 166,000, and that little change has taken place
during the intercensal period. It is however the practice, for
the sake of uniformity, to adopt the estimate of the Registrar
General for the purpose of calculating mortality rates, &c., and
the figures appearing in this report are based upon the Registrar
General's estimate.
