Deaths from Zymotic Diseases.
The principal zymotic diseases are small-pox, measles, scarlet
fever, diphtheria (including membranous croup), whooping-cough,
enteric fever and diarrhoea.
The deaths from these causes in 1928 numbered 111, as compared
with 57 in 1927, an increase of 94.7 per cent., mainly due to
the outbreak of measles. There was a corresponding increase in
the zymotic death-rate from 0.338 in 1927 to 0.676 in 1928.

The mean death-rate from each of the principal zymotic diseases for the ten years 1908-1917, and for the ten years 1918-1927, are compared with the corresponding rates for 1927 and 1928 in the following table :—

NON-NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Chicken-Pox.
During 1928 there were 632 cases of chicken-pox reported, as
compared with 671 in 1927, 375 in 1926, 853 in 1925, and 541 in
1924.
Diarrhœa.
During 1928 the total number of deaths from diarrhoea of
children under 2 years of age was 26, and was equivalent to a
fatality-rate of .16. In 1927 there were 7 deaths and a fatalityrate
of 0.04. The rate per 1,000 registered births in 1928 was 9.48.
