In order to bring about a greater understanding of the continuing
care of the patient within the community,, the Principal Nursing Officer
initiated a study day for nursing staff of both the Chelsea and
Kensington Group of Hospitals and the community nursing staff. This
day was most successful and is to be repeated in the Spring. Schemes
for closer liaison between hospital and community nursing staff have
been developed at the following hospitals:
Princess Louise Hospital - Paediatric Liaison
St, Charles' Hospital - Paediatric Liaison
St, Mary's Paddington - Teaching and Maternity Department
St, Stephen's Hospital - Teaching and Maternity Department
St. Luke's Hospital - Geriatric Liaison
An extremely useful scheme of liaison between the health visitors
and the psychiatrist and psychiatric social worker of the local child
guidance clinic has been maintained at one health centre on an informal
basis. Both groups have benefited from this opportunity of discussing
the problems they have in common.
Health Visiting with the Elderly
The development of attachment schemes in group practice bring
health visitors in touch with increasing numbers of elderly people.
Visiting to the elderly in their homes has increased, and has led to
the formation of special clubs for them at all health centres. The
club activities cover films, talks and discussions on a wide range of
health and social topics. Reference has been made earlier to
developing liaison with the geriatric hospital services. This
extension of the service is important and will prove of great benefit.
