HEALTH VISITING
Previous Annual Reports have emphasised the attraction which the
Borough provides to health visitors of a high calibre, because of the
great variety of experience which is to be gained from its wide cross
section of social groups. Once again I am pleased to report that the
staffing position has been maintained. The scope of the work of the
health visitor demands the widest use of those skills she has gained
not only during the health visitor training course, but also developed
during her earlier state registration training in hospital, and her
subsequent midwifery training. These professional qualifications
prepare her for her work with all ages within the community, the antenatal
mother, the young child, the adolescent, the handicapped to the
elderly. One of her most important roles is in teaching the basis of
healthy living, and in this she undertakes teaching wherever possible
within the home, school, clinic, club or in response to any invitation
from voluntary groups. A list demonstrating this wide range of health
education activities which are undertaken, is to be found under Health
Education elsewhere in this report.
