EMERGENCY CALL SERVICE
This service co-ordinates emergency cover for local authority
health, welfare and children's emergencies arising outside normal
office hours. It is shared between this Council and the City of
Westminster and is operated from Westminster City Hall. The cost
is divided between the two authorities.
During 1970, 2,272 calls were received by the Night Duty
Officers, concerning this Council's services.
NURSING HOMES
There were no new registrations of nursing homes, but one
home closed early in 1970 reducing the number of available medical
beds by 15.
During the year eight visits of inspection were made by a
principal medical officer and the Chief Public Health Inspector.
At three homes they were accompanied by an officer of the department
of the Director of Technical Services, who inspected and
advised on means of escape in case of fire.
All homes are generally satisfactory, but at one the means
of escape in case of fire were not considered to be adequate and
various requirements have been made.
Two visits were made to proposed nursing home premises and
the prospective "keepers" were advised as to the suitability of the
premises and the requirements that would have to be met before
registration by the Council.
