LICENSING AND REGISTRATIONS
These functions were described in detail in my report for I969.
The greater part of the work involved during the year has been in
connection with licensing and inspection of employment agencies of which
the number had doubled since 1st April, 1965, massage establishments.
Certain provisions of the Gaming Act 1968 became operative on the
1st July, 1970 and as a result permits for amusements with prizes
became the responsibility of the Licensing Justices to whom records
were transferred. Two permits under the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries
Act 1963 remained with this Authority, and 29 new permits were granted
under the Gaming Act, 1968. This involved additional administrative
duties during this current year, but the incidence of the grant and
renewal of these permits should decrease in subsequent years.
There was also a significant decrease in the number of shops
registered during the year for the storage of fireworks.
