the year by chiropodists employed on a sessional basis, an arrangement that
was far from satisfactory as it resulted in inconvenience for the patients
and additional and unrewarding work for the staff in the cancellation and
rearrangement of appointments.
The removal to Westminster of the Chelsea School of Chiropody in May,
1968, introduced the problem of continuing to provide a chiropody service
for those mainly living in the south of the borough who had formerly
attended there for treatment. Three measures were taken to meet their
needs.
In July, an additional weekly session was opened at Earls Court foot
clinic to take more patients who lived in that area. Also, arrangements
were made in August with a chiropodist in private practice in South
Kensington to accept, at two sessions a week, former patients of the
Chelsea School of Chiropody and other patients who could conveniently
attend his surgery for treatment. In addition, towards the end of the year,
as an interim arrangement prior to the establishment of a two-chair clinic
at the Violet Melchett Health Centre, Flood Walk, S.W.3., use was made of
a small coach to take patients who had difficulty in using public transport,
mainly because of their age, to sessions held fortnightly in the new
premises of the Chelsea School of Chiropody at 18 Samford Street, N.W.8.

Recuperative Holidays.
The provision of recuperative holidays for persons classified as "other
adults", who are mainly elderly persons, showed a slight decline. There was
a more marked decline in the number of holidays provided for children,
mainly those of school age.
